You may not have seen our article in the clubs boxing day programme so we have reproduced it below. It was indeed a sell out and thanks to the win we are sitting second in the URC table at the end of 2025. .
It seems that at the end of every year, we look back and talk about what a remarkably poor year it’s been for the national game and that surely better things await us in the near future,
A year ago, we were looking ahead to a new PRA deal with the WRU and an improving Cardiff team, slowly building under an outstanding Head Coach in Matt Sherratt. We had reason to be cautiously optimistic about what 2025 might bring.
Its likely that you’re reading this with a wry smile,
We don’t need to go back over everything that has happened over the past year. But, once again, there is some genuine reason for optimism at the Arms Park. Once again the team is building nicely under Corniel Van Zyl. There is the real prospect of new ownership soon. One of the groups bidding for the club have spoken with CF10 to outline their ambitious plans. If those plans come to fruition then the future might be very exciting indeed. And, despite everything that has happened over the past year, the Arms Park is set to once again be sold out this Boxing Day,
Sadly, as with every other pro club in Wales, in order to fully seize these opportunities, we need to rely on decisions made nextdoor at the WRU. And the WRU have frequently shown themselves to not always be reliable decision makers.
But this is the time of year to briefly put such concerns aside.
A word about today’s opponents and our friends at the Dragons Supporters club. We were all delighted to see them get their wins against Lyon and Connacht, Fans at the Dragons have shown up week in week out and cheered on their team in the most difficult circumstances. There isn’t a rugby fan anywhere in the world who can teach the Dragons faithful anything about loyalty or backing their team through thick and thin. They deserve their recent success. Its well earned.
But we’re sure they understand that we hope their winning run comes to an end today.
Merry Christmas to fans of both teams. We have faith that there are brighter days ahead.
