Derek became a Cardiff RFC fan after being taught by the late Howard Norris in the mid 1960’s.
Derek was born and bred in Cardiff and although his sporting involvement is largely football-based he did represent Cardiff Schools at rugby at under 11 level!
He is a chartered accountant and is Managing Partner in Clifton House Partnership – a 4 partner practice based in Cardiff and has been a season ticket holder with Cardiff Blues for over 10 years
Outside the office Derek was extensively involved in football at local level. A playing career as an amateur at Newport County and at Barry Town culminated in five appearances for Wales at semi-professional level including two games as captain. Derek was Chairman of Cardiff Civil Service F.C. for over a decade and served 17 years on the governing bodies of a local primary school and 6th Form college. He was a Torch Bearer for the 2012 London Olympics.
Derek is the Founder of Friends of Bobath Wales which has raised over £275k for a charity supporting children with Cerebral Palsy and was awarded the British Empire Medal ( BEM ) in the 2014 New Years Honours in recognition of that work.
