A Cardiff rugby supporter since being taken by my father to the 1980 game against New Zealand.
A Cardiff rugby supporter since being taken by my father to the 1980 game against New Zealand, I was born & grew up in west Wales (having my character built by being surrounded by Llanelli supporters 1985 was hard!). I captained Ceredigion Schools U18 & had a final Welsh Schools trial but ultimately my ambitions to play for Cardiff & Wales were thwarted by a dodgy knee & chronic lack of talent, though not before winning the Welsh Counties Cup in 1992 with Pembrokeshire Youth the vagaries of west Wales on full show here I turned to history teaching!
I graduated in 1996 from Trinity College Carmarthen (more Llanelli fans), also Barry John’s alma mater and moved to the sunny climes of Newbury, Berkshire. At a time of too many teachers for too few posts, I obtained a post with Berkshire LEA. Returning home to Wales in 2002 I worked for Cardiff University School of Medicine undertaking a variety of roles, perhaps the most interesting was managing the All-Wales clinical placement activity & International partnerships that allowed me to visit places as diverse as Rome,Tokyo & Bangor.
In addition to attending Cardiff home games and a few away, I try to keep the regional flame alive by assisting coaching Llantwit Fardre U9’s. The highlight being the end of season session on the hallowed 4G of the Arms Park! In addition to rugby coaching & fighting the traffic on the A470 I am currently learning how to ski where I find the floor is by far the most effective brake & learning to speak Italian. I enjoy opera, poetry, reading nonfiction and I am trying desperately to complete an MA. I am a husband, a Dad to three wonderful kids who are taking an increased interest in events at the Arms Park for a variety of reasons & a son who loves his Mam!
